7 Tips To Ensure I Get The Most From My Tarot Reading

March 4, 2018

"Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything."

-- Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet

While I have worked for years to refine my ability as a reader, to hone my intuition and connect with clients and guides, I do not have the ability to read your mind. I believe our power truly lies in our ability to clearly tease out the questions in our heart about our life's situation. If we can get to the true essence of that which you seek, we can begin to unlock the different possible future paths available for you.

This human experience is one of free will. I cannot tell you how the future will unfold because you have choice in many of your own outcomes. When I give a reading, I work with you in an act of co-creation to explore your experience and develop blueprints for possible future choices. Whether or not you have come to the clarity of your question(s) at the time of booking is okay, just know that the more you have fine tuned your question, the more time we will have to exploring the possibilities, details, and qualities of your situation.

If you need help coming to your own question that's okay! Please understand that some of your reading time will be used to help you tease through what is cool and important to you, what has been arising for you, and what really matters right now. If you are looking for a metaphysical experience, just be honest! There are a lot of good general readings and spreads we can utilize to give you more general overviews about what's currently going on with you in your experience, energy, skills, tools, hopes, and future possibilities.

Here are some general tips for making the most of your reading:

1) Communicate honestly what you are searching for.

Ask the question. Be as specific as you can, and if you can't put your finger on it, be specific about that as well. If you have special considerations or needs, please communicate clearly before your reading begins. Any background information you feel comfortable providing will contribute to a more proactive style of reading.

2) Be present.

Be fully present during your reading. If you want to audio record the reading that is okay but you must be committed to the session for me to appropriately connect with your energy and guides. If you want to take notes I recommend doing so after the reading in the form of reflective writing. I will email you the highlights of our reading together, in writing, to access as you move forward.

3) Be in a quiet, undisturbed space for your reading.

Your self-work and self-care deserve the same respect that you do. If at all possible, take time to quiet your mind and engage in an activity to center yourself before a reading. The more you respect and create sacred space for transformation to occur, the more quickly you will connect with your own transformative powers.

4) Respect the privacy of others.

I cannot read for someone who is not present. I will not read for someone in your life who is not present for the reading and who has not consented for the reading as a matter of personal and professional ethics. This means no using the cards to spy on your spouse, family member, co-worker, etc. Of course we can talk about your relationships with the people and animals in your life but we will do so in a way that relates to you from your own perspective.

5) Be curious, come with a sense of play.

We are asking a deck of cards for advice! It's important not to come to your reading with expectations. Be open to the organic flow of our connection and allow your heart to accept even the wildest of possibilities during our time together. Your reading is a time for expansion and curiosity. Drop judgement of yourself and others. Let the space of the reading be a space where everything is radically okay, just as it is. Play is one of my favorite elements of readings and finding a joyful, loving heartspace will allow you to connect more deeply with your reading as well as your own guides.

6) Understand that some questions cannot be answered.

Not all questions can be answered at the time of a reading. No reader can answer all questions. Please remember there are limitations of the services offered. If you are looking for predictive work with specific dates/people/places I suggest consulting with other resources. I retain the right to refuse questions that are inappropriate, unethical, and beyond the scope of my practice at any time. I will always consult with you around why I make any decision to reframe or refuse a question.

7) Take time to reflect.

Didn't receive the answer you were pushing for? Confused by a message from your guides? I urge you to sit with yourself and reflect on your reading, to take space before seeking another form of consultation. Resistance to change is natural. Our human bodies are wired to resist and contract from that which is uncomfortable and we often find ourselves making ourselves at home in whatever situation we find ourselves in rather than creating our experiences with intention. What is arising? What is difficult to accept? I am only here to assist you and gain nothing by misleading you. Trust that my intentions are to always serve your highest self. Reconcile why your current self cannot accept the offering.

Loved every minute and resonated deeply with the messages you received? Take time to marinate in the experience. Reflect and "soak in the sunshine" of feeling seen and listened to and validated. It's so good for your body, mind, and heart to really imprint the experience. Take time to write down a reflection and visit it later. Meditate on your offering and how it can best serve you and your purpose at this time.
